Choosing materials starts with the harder and stronger base metal. Base metals are widely available in standard sheet and plate thicknesses. Steel and stainless will have little rolling reduction and may only be reduced through the surface preparation process. Copper in combination with aluminum will result in a 10% to 20% reduction to the base. When using aluminum as the clad material, we can roll to a target dimension and achieve your desired overall part thickness.
Rolling can also produce multiple layers of metallurgically bonded metals. Typically, a "Bi-Metal" has two layers. A "Tri-Metal" may have several layers that can be bonded during one rolling or built up through multiple passes. Please refer to the table below for building combinations of standard materials.
